The Munk Lab
The building revolutionized laboratory design, being the
first in the world to have large open lab spaces immediately
accessible for delivery and transport of materials, with large
windows and a timber framework. Although initially controversial,
the lab has proved to be very popular with staff, technicians,
and students.

Since completion, the building has won several
architectural awards, and is still one of the most popular
and loved at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
Today little has changed in the lab since its
construction, and the first year Keller laboratory
overlooking the ocean has to be one of the most scenic
spots in the world for first year students. The Munk
Conference Room, located at the far west of the building
has excellent views of the Pacific Ocean and La Jolla
Cove.
