Science publishes Fan and Shearer's large quake aftershock discoveries

Congratulations to IGPP's Wenyuan Fan and Peter M. Shearer, whose large earthquake aftershock research paper titled "Local near instantaneously dynamically triggered aftershocks of large earthquakes" appears in the 9 September 2016 issue of Science.

Shearer and Fan located 48 previously unidentified large early aftershocks triggered by earthquakes with magnitudes between ≥7 and 8. They have observed that large earthquakes can dynamically trigger remote aftershocks occurring almost instantaneously within subduction zones and continental boundaries.
