Zhan and Shearer deep earthquake observations published in Science

IGPP Postdoc Zhongwen Zhan and Professor Peter Shearer, in collaboration with researchers at Caltech, have shared their recent observations on the high-rupture speeds of deep earthquakes in the July 11, 2014 issue of Science. Zhan and Shearer's discoveries, which provide new insight into both deep and near-surface earthquakes, came about as they researched the aftershocks of the M8.3 Sea of Okhotsk event of May 24, 2103. http://www.sciencemag.org/content/345/6193/204.full.pdf
