Key Deploys Sensor Array to Study and Visualize Okmok's Magma

Earlier this summer IGPP Associate Professor Kerry Key, in collaboration with USGS, Alaska Volcano Observatory, and University of Wisconsin Madison colleagues, traveled to Umnak Island to commence study of the magma—how it’s formed, where it’s stored—beneath Okmok Volcano.

Line of Sight Deformation from Mw 7.8 Gorkha EQ

By processing satellite radar imagery collected before and after the the Mw 7.8 earthquake in Nepal, IGPP’s Eric Lindsey, Xiaohua Xu, and David Sandwell have been able to successfully produce line of sight deformation data for the region.  Imagery and information, about the satellites used, are available at http://topex.ucsd.edu/nepal/.

Science publishes Paolo and Fricker's 18-year study of changing Antarctic ice sheet shelves

The findings of a recent study on Antarctic ice sheet thinning by IGPP geophysicists, Fernando Paolo and Helen Fricker, have been published in the March 26, 2015 issue of Science. Ph.D. student Paolo, glaciologist Fricker, and Laurie Padman, of Earth & Space Research Space Agency, reviewed 18 years of imagery gathered during European Space Agency satellite radar altimetry missions to conduct their research.

GISMOS Gathers Detailed Pre-storm Data

Track GISMOS (GNSS [Global Navigation Satellite System] Instrument System for Multistatic and Occultation Sensing) as it gathers onshore moisture feeding data (for the 3-4 days of heavy rain forecasted in Northern California). GISMOS is gathering data from its perch aboard the NOAA G-IV aircraft during the NOAA CALWATER2015 Atmospheric Rivers campaign.
