Vernon awarded for "Innovation in Networking Award for Experimental Applications" by CENIC

Congratulations to Frank Vernon, Director of IGPP's Broadband Seismic Data Collection Center, who has been awarded CENIC's (California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology) "Innovation in Networking Award for Experimental Applications." The application was the implementation of real-time, data-driven simulation, prediction and visualization of wildfires. He has deployed high-speed wiresless networks that allow data collection from hundreds of stations, and developing fire cameras and multi-hazard (e.g.

Atmospheric Rivers, are a weather phenomena that plays a key role in the variability of the water supply and the incidence of extreme precipitation events along the West Coast of the United States.  AR2018 is a field campaign that will make offshore measurements of atmospheric rivers before they impact the west coast of the USA as part of the Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes (CW3E) effort to improve forecasts for water resource management and flash flood prediction.

Catherine Constable named 2017 AAAS Fellow

Congratulations to Cathy Constable who has been named one of 396 new Fellows to the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)! Constable, who is being honored for “for seminal contributions to computational geomagnetism and the development of the Giant Gaussian process,” and “key leadership roles in scientific organizations,” will receive her award at the annual AAAS meeting February 2018.
